Pongal is the harvest festival of Tamilians.

Pongal signals the auspicious beginning of Uttarayan and is celebrated on Jan 14 every year. The festival is celebrated for four days. The first day of the festival commences with “Bhogi”and is celebrated to thank “Lord Indra”.The second day is celebrated to thank “Lord Surya” and is known as “Pongal.” People pray to sun god to bless them with all prosperity in the years to come.The third day of Pongal festival is “Mattu Pongal,” during this day people pay respect to cattle for helping them in the harvest. The fourth day of the festival is called “Kanum Pongal” and this bells the end of the festival.

During the Pongal festival ‘delicious Pongals’ ignites the taste buds of Tamilians and holds the reputation of being the most important dish of the festival. Loads of sugarcane are masticated during the Pongal festival and flower carpet decorations adorn the floors of every house.

We celebrated Pongal on the eve of the Pongal day in our Office. The Comodo India family enjoyed every moment of the Office Pongal celebrations.
