As the name suggests it is all about data residing in the layer of the pages. Data can be about useful information of your properties when the user interacts using which analytics and marketing folks understand the likes and wants of users to create an enriching experience for the users.<div><br /></div><div>Capturing the data useful for your properties is the foundation to begin knowing anything about your users preferences to provide compelling user experiences that flourish your business. Designing a robust data layer should the number one priority to take the right path to success.</div><div><br /></div><div>Most of us have heard about Customer Experience Digital Data Layer layer by W3C and would have worked on designing data layer to collect data footprints of the users. </div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>One of the main challenges in tracking in SPA / regular pages is users moving to next page or bouncing off the pages.</li><li>Tracking Interactions happening on a page without the need to refresh the page needs a well thought data layer strategy</li></ul></div><div>Triggering bulk of data layer objects at once while waiting the page to load completely can be tricky.. what if the users moves in or out of the domain quickly before the data layer trigger :-( This situation can lead to definite loss of users path and valuable information that could be associated with the user (anonymous/known). </div><div><span style="color: #e69138;">These type of tracking favors building an EDDL strategy for your RWD property and have the same event specification across all your digital properties.</span></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="color: #38761d;">How can we track users in this situation - the answer is asynchronous way of getting the data layer implemented unlike the regular synchronous way of getting the data objects implemented. </span></div><div><br /></div><div>Below is a JS object data layer named as digitalData. It has got one object and two attributes. This is a traditional data layer methodology where the data layer is triggered when all of these values are available essentially when the page is completely rendered. Users moving out of the page before it is is completely loaded means data layer is not invoked and data is not available about the users. </div><div><br /></div><div><div><script></div><div>digitalData = {</div><div>page:{</div><div>pageName: "electronics: product page",</div><div>section: "electronics"</div><div>productName: "television"</div><div>productId:"31443"</div><div>}};</div><div></script></div></div><div><br /></div><div>We have a chance to collect the data about the users as and when it is available. Suppose, lets say if two of the attributes (pageName and section) is available when the page is beginning to load, then lets make that data available in the data layer. Whatever is not available is not available, we can't do much when page itself is half loaded and content is still not available. In this situation, we could load the available data asynchronously with a proper event driven data layer design. We can do the same thing when users interact with the page contents. Asynchronous data layer push is the answer. I would suggest 3 ways to get this done.</div><div><br /></div><div>(1)ACDL extension in AA (you would need to work on the DL strategy and get the developers deploy the DL code)</div><div>(2)GTM inbuilt data layer (you would need to work on the DL strategy and get the developers deploy the DL code)</div><div>(3)Creation your own data layer managing engine (you would need to work on the DL strategy and get the developers create the DL engine and deploy the DL code)</div><div><span style="color: #2b00fe;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #2b00fe;"><b>(1)In Adobe Analytics, we can use ACDL extension for creation of EDDL. Give the below code to the developers:</b></span></div><div><br /></div><div><div><b>//trigger on page load(DOM ready) when the data is available</b></div><div>adobeDataLayer.push({ </div><div>event:"pageData", </div><div>page:{</div><div>"pageName":"[value]",</div><div>"siteSubSection":"[value]"</div><div>}});</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><b>/</b><b>/trigger on page load(DOM ready) when the data is available</b></div><div><div>adobeDataLayer.push({ </div><div>event:"ProductData", </div><div>product:{</div><div>"productName":"[value]",</div><div>"productId":"[value]"</div><div>}});</div></div><div><br /></div><div>These two data layer triggers are made as two different calls. Doing this, if the users move off before when the page is partially loaded, we at least get the attributes pertaining to <b>first push </b>which can be made instantly available on the page. Now, for users staying fully on the page load, we have data points from <b>(1) and (2) which can be combined to get all the data points at once and can be sent to AA/GA by getting it mapped to right variables or to any end point.</b></div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmO0HvS3_nYrNm0NhRL2IxLl8poa7K2Kk-IWLPm7CzIBv0GVoQiCbRfOm7wbvIdJp7UI5L4qGwEsqOW6kkOoTvQOCFNxCYl4RlwiqxohNfeWMi28YRa7R5AyF3KaI2yXqstLL23gAsYy4/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="689" data-original-width="969" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmO0HvS3_nYrNm0NhRL2IxLl8poa7K2Kk-IWLPm7CzIBv0GVoQiCbRfOm7wbvIdJp7UI5L4qGwEsqOW6kkOoTvQOCFNxCYl4RlwiqxohNfeWMi28YRa7R5AyF3KaI2yXqstLL23gAsYy4/w640-h456/image.png" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">(2)GTM has EDDL inbuilt. using familiar tools. Experience Platform also supports partners to build and integrate their own products
and technologies as needed. </p><p>Experience Platform is designed and built using the following core principles of API-first development: </p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>• The API is the primary interface into Experience Platform. </li><li>• All Experience Platform functions, including administrative functions, are available through the
API. </li><li>• Platform services, Adobe solutions, and third-party integrations use the same API.</li></ul><p></p><p>By taking an API-first approach, Experience Platform opens integration opportunities such as:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Enabling partners to build their own data ingestion and egress capabilities, including 24-hour
automated processes, by using Catalog and Data Access services for full integration capabilities
with the data store in Experience Platform. </li><li>• Enabling developersto build custom UIsto support specific task-driven use cases.</li></ul><p></p><p> Experience Platform consists of: </p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>• Data Foundation: Data Foundation enables developersto manage standard schemas, ingest data,
interact with datasets, apply Data Usage labeling and Enforcement (DULE) metadata, and access
data. </li><li>• Machine Learning (ML): ML offers predefined models and the capability to develop custom ML
models for specific needs. </li><li>• Audience Activation: Audience Activation includes Unified Profile, Identity, and Edge Services.
These services work together to enable you to build and activate audiences based on customer
profiles containing individual attributes and behaviors.</li></ul><div>With Experience Platform, businesses can do the following: </div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>• Centralize and standardize all data captured in Adobe Experience Cloud products or configure API
connectors to stream or batch data in from any system.</li><li>• Create dynamic real-time customer profiles by stitching together data,such as CRM, behavioral,
transactional, and attribute.</li><li>• Enrich the understanding of a customer with SQL or AI/ML intelligence capabilities, while ensuring
proper governance. </li><li>• Apply decisioning and orchestration to activate the enriched real-time customer profiles across
any channel (one or many)</li></ul><div>The following diagram depicts the Experience Platform workflow:</div></div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_gU4jwICYiYy3Uk1z9eGitxAFjrBDx3_5IxOHl-g6nEKYg-HFo-8DdbWAcF83Dn3AxkZPzXSV3ahJSTwt9NI-PYsNY0GPzt4ByTrJWsk-9ozCK_6oq5GGjH-Fvns4ZF6Cn9p13Cc6DOw/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="395" data-original-width="923" height="274" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_gU4jwICYiYy3Uk1z9eGitxAFjrBDx3_5IxOHl-g6nEKYg-HFo-8DdbWAcF83Dn3AxkZPzXSV3ahJSTwt9NI-PYsNY0GPzt4ByTrJWsk-9ozCK_6oq5GGjH-Fvns4ZF6Cn9p13Cc6DOw/w640-h274/image.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br /></div><p></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6166609083511821314.post-51186728284989634102016-07-06T14:39:00.003-07:002020-12-30T19:45:48.566-08:00Learn Adobe Analytics Marketing Reports & Analytics (SiteCatalyst) : Free Self Implementation Kit for Study<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">But before the testing industry can really prove its worth, more testers will need to know </span><strong style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">why</em></strong><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;"> they’re testing -- before they start running tests.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">To answer “why", you must first formulate a sound hypothesis. Your hypothesis needs to get to the core of what you’re trying to achieve through testing. Testers who start with solid hypotheses have better odds of running valid tests with significant results.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Valid tests can lead to big conversion gains. Big conversion gains can equate to big revenue increases. And, of course, big revenue increases mean your company’s doing well.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">The rest is a no-brainer. <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 19.2px; line-height: 26.88px;">Segmentation, personalization, and dynamic content tests are different words used to describe the same testing technique?</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 19.2px; line-height: 26.88px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Segmentation, personalization, and dynamic content tests are similar to each other. But they are not exactly the same. Each test method differs in how it works, what it looks at, and how it’s run.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Segmentation and personalization tests can be thought of as running along the same continuum. But they are different.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Segmentation tests play off the idea that not every visitor coming to your site is the same. Visitors are coming from different devices, locations, and may even speak different languages.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">WhichTestWon’s State of Online Testing Report found 12% more segmentation tests were run this year, compared to last year. That’s an impressive gain that shows the testing industry is maturing.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Personalization tests take individual visitor segments -- like device used, or language spoken, or even 'affluent dog owners in the market for a late-model Toyota' -- to uniquely address visitors differently. These tests look for ways to serve different visitors very specific, personalized content. Personalization tests are based on the principle that the more you know about your visitor, the more successfully you can tailor their web experience. This year, WhichTestWon found 41% of testers ran personalization tests. As personalization technology develops, we expect this number to continue rising.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Dynamic content tests are the most complex because they’re most based around your site architecture. A dynamic content site is always changing. It looks different for each web visitor and each time that visitor comes to the site. The site is completely attuned to who the visitor is and what they’re after. Social media sites, with targeted ads – like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn -- are good examples of dynamic content sites.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Currently, some of the most complex tests to run are segmentation, personalization, and dynamic content tests. These tests require a deep understanding of who your audience is, where and how your traffic is arriving, and what your viewers require.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Unsure what the other test techniques are? Here’s an explanation:</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">A/A, A/B, or A/B/N tests are just a fancy name for the plain, old split test. </span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">• An A/A test splits traffic 50/50 and tests the exact same thing against itself. A/A tests are usually implemented before A/B testing to make sure test results will be valid.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">• A/B, or traditional split testing, occurs when you split traffic 50/50 and compare version A to version B to see which converts better.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">• A/B/N testing occurs when you compare any number (N) of versions against each other to determine which converts best.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Sequential testing is different than split testing. It occurs when you test one element, then another, and compare results. Sequential testing is sometimes used for low traffic sites. However, sequential tests can be problematic because time itself is a variable that impacts results. Testers shouldn’t be running sequential tests for months at a time just to get statistically significant results.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">Navigation and landing page tests are studies that look at how viewers navigate your site or interact with your landing page. Sometimes these tests are very complex. But in general, navigation and landing page studies aren’t as sophisticated as segmentation, personalization, or dynamic content tests.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 25.2px;">So what are segmentation, personalization, and dynamic content tests? Go to the next question to find out.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px;">Harnessing the power of ‘thank you’ is important. It’s also often overlooked. </span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22.4px;" /><span style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 22.4px;">Testers tend to get so wrapped up generating leads and sales, they forget to test the receipt / thank you page. But testing this last step in the sales funnel offers a golden opportunity.<br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" />That’s because roughly 40% of traffic landing on your thank you page will convert again for something else. <br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" />Take advantage of this high conversion rate by testing ways to bring your customers back – again and again.<br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" />When testing thank</span><span style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 22.4px;"> you pages, make sure to think about your audience. Find ways to cater to both first-time and return visitors. Both have different needs. Consider testing different offers for each group to keep them coming back.<br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" />Test </span><span style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 22.4px;">your thank you emails, too. Did you know new customer thank you emails have the highest open rate of any message you’ll ever send? That’s an insane amount of attention you’ll never get from your customers again. Test ways to extend conversions in your thank you emails. </span></div>

Preserving the required metrics/dimensions in a certain order while creating reports using Report Builder, and saving the templates by naming it properly is the key to build automated dashboards. Keep the raw the data in one sheet (don't forget to set the preserved order), and the formatted one in other (just apply the formula once - connect the data with charts).</div>

Hi Kamal,</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
Standard metric attribution for the Site Content> Pages report is linear therefore (see reference info linked below) even though it appears the Orders metric is 0 in the report it actually is a small fraction. Therefore when the calculation is made you have a very high # (Revenue) divided by a fraction (.10 fraction values of Orders for example) which produces a very high 'non-sensical' value. You can verify yourself by creating a calculated metric for orders that allows for decimal places. If it were the case that the Orders metric was truly zero than your calculated metric value would be an error DIV/O since you cannot divide a number by zero.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
What analysis question are you trying to evaluate Site Content> Pages? My main question would be what is the intent behind using AOV against linear allocation metrics within the pages report? Since linear allocation is variable depending on the count of pages within a given visitors conversion visit it is very likely not what you are looking to review.</div>

<div class="p" style="margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
When linear allocation is selected, success events are evenly divided across all variable values seen in the visit. For numeric and currency events such as Revenue, the monetary amount is divided. For counter events such as Orders, a fraction of the event is awarded to each variable value in the visit. These fractions in reporting are summed, then rounded to the nearest integer in reporting.</div>
<div class="p" style="margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
For example, in a visit where four pages are visited prior to a success event, each page would receive credit for 25% of the event. If, in the same visit, campaign had two values, each campaign value would receive 50% of the credit for the event.</div>

Dear Brain</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
Thank you very much. Great answer!!!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
We are trying to understand the effectiveness of each page that contributes to the conversion. I had recommended participation revenue metrics instead of measuring this way. Believe even participation metrics are based on per visit, and perhaps a better one.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
Do you want to suggest on any other way to understand the role of each page in producing conversions.</div>

Solely relying on scAdd to track units added to the cart is definitely misleading. One can add multiple products at once..so........Better to keep track of units added to shopping cart in a separate variable + one more variable to track the revenue; preferably in the product string would be great. This will allow you yo calculate lost revenue vs actual revenue and actual units sold vs added units. </span><br />

I posted to confirm on my understanding on Adobe forum - The great Adam chose to reply for it.<br />
<br />
<b>Reply from Adam - </b><span style="color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">I am not sure what your specific question is here, but you can certainly track Units added to cart, add to cart revenue, checkout revenue, etc. You just can't do it using the Purchase event, but rather you need to use custom variables for this. The following old blog post of mine should explain most of what you need to know: http://adam.webanalyticsdemystified.com/2010/06/28/money-left-on-the-table/</span><br />
<span style="color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"><b>My reply - </b></span><br />
<span style="color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"><br /></span>
<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
Dear Adam</div>
<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
I am fan of you, thank you very much for your reply.</div>
<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
In one of my recent Client site they have coded s.product string with units and revenue ( ;PROD26676;1;45.5 without custom variables / event incrementor) from product page till the final purchase page. On the final page the purchase event is triggered, and hence I believe we get the count of orders, revenue and units sold. Is coding units and products (;PROD26676;1;45.5) in pages other than purchase page send the the units and revenue data to analytics report that too without purchase event. I guess it won't. Please confirm on this.</div>
<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
Other clarification; if I add 10 quantities of the same product will scAdd track 10 units or 1 shopping cart addition as the image request fires only once. Please advise here.</div>
<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
So without a separate event incrementor is it not possible to track number of units (added to cart but not purchased) through scAdd in product pages (product detail page, check out) other than purchase page where purchase events tracks the actual purchase.</div>
<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
Best Regards</div>
<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">

<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: Times; font-size: small;"><b>Reply from Adam - </b></span>Now I get your question. You are correct that you cannot use the first few slots of the purchase string when not coupled with the Purchase event.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
To see # of Units added to cart and the Revenue added to cart, here is what you would put on the Cart Add page if you assume someone added 10 units worth $500:</div>
<div class="rte_indent1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px; text-indent: 40px;">
<em>s.events=scAdd</em></div>
<div class="rte_indent1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px; text-indent: 40px;">
<em>s.products=;[PRODUCT ID];;;eventA=10|eventB=500</em></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
If you also wanted to see how many units and how much $$$ was brought to the checkout step, you would repeat this. Let's say that the same user decided to remove 2 units and $100 by the time they reached the checkout step. The coding might look like this:</div>
<div class="rte_indent1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20.8px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px; text-indent: 40px;">
<em>s.events=scCheckout</em></div>
<div class="rte_indent1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20.8px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px; text-indent: 40px;">
<em>s.products=;[PRODUCT ID];;;eventX=8|eventY=400</em></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Then you would set the Purchase event normally so you get Orders and Revenue and you would open the Products report and see 3 columns for each product:</div>
<div class="rte_indent1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px; text-indent: 40px;">
<em>Cart Add Revenue</em></div>
<div class="rte_indent1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px; text-indent: 40px;">
<em>Checkout Revenue</em></div>
<div class="rte_indent1" style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px; text-indent: 40px;">
<em>Revenue</em></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">
Then you can create calculated metrics between them as you'd like...Just keep in mind that you's want to make success events A & X numeric events and events B & Y Currency events in the admin console...</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #4f5051; font-family: adobe-clean, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 0.9em; margin-top: 0.5em; padding: 0px;">

<tr><td><pre style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><b>Description of innovation / solution:</b> E-Tailer Coupon Business confronted a challenge in the form of tracking people uniquely who visit the website, downloads PDF and the subsequent interactions they do on the PDF. The PDF interactions can happen online/offline, this posed a huge challenge to track the visitors uniquely. CTS as a service vendor accepted this challenge and performed the implementation which resulted in receiving the analytics data much beyond what the Client is looking for.
Tealium and Site Catalyst integration along with Data Insertion API helped them accomplish their business objective to track coupons PDF.
Improved coupons selection by looking at most popular coupons getting selected and printed.
Reports results in creating goal specific plans.</pre>
</td></tr>
<tr><td><pre style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><b>Business challenge(s) solution addresses:</b> The client has a voucher distributing site wherein people selects the vouchers from the website, and downloads the vouchers in a standalone PDF(offline) or online PDF, takes the voucher print again from the online PDF or offline.
The E-Tailer wants to know how many people selects the vouchers, and at the voucher level how many offers are available, how many were not available (voucher expired, reached print limit etc.), how many got printed from PDF and how many were not printed by tracking same visitor from web, the reasons (printer not connected, papers unavailable to print etc.), and finally overall vouchers per unique visitor and unique vouchers per visitors (shouldn't cross more than two).
Since the objective is to track coupons selection advertised on web and to track them in PDF format upon printing, we followed the below approach.
Used Tag Management System (Tealium) for implementing tags to pullover data for Site Catalyst (Adobe Analytics) for configuring dashboards and reports.
Collaborated with developers for using Data Insertion API to pass coupons specific values to Site Catalyst ..
Audited tags functionality through ObservePoint and data insertion value through server logs along collaboration with developers.
Based on unique visitors , tracked unique visitors and their interaction on both web and PDF that helped creating Dashboards and reports that encompasses drilled down reports that will add value to the business like
Most Popular coupons - Average unique coupons prints per visitor
Conversion funnels - Offer Status Message occurrences
Print Success/Failure Rate - Offers Selected to Print Ratio
OS/Browser Segmentations - Geo Segmentation</pre>
</td></tr>

More vouchers the Client distributes more is the profitability, and for complete understanding of visitor activities to improve the business they rely on SiteCatalyst where we have facilitated all data .

Customers travel through several TouchPoints before they get converted. Measuring the effectiveness of each of the TouchPoint is vital for arriving at the marketing impact. Gone are the days where you will just measure the last touch point without even considering which are the other channels that assisted the customers to complete the conversion. Turning on and off a campaign makes sense only if it really doesn't perform well, so here the measurement is the key, and need to be done through a robust measurement foundation.<br />

Hope all of you agree that preparing a good presentation is the key, with understandable slides pertaining to the topic for the target audience.<br />
<br />
Even the web analytics interface needs to be presented well to the business, and the requirements will be different client to client. SiteCatalyst has done its best to fit the menus / report holders for all users by default. But since the requirements differs from client to client, isn't it better to the customize the menus according to your client requirement, and keep the sets of data in the order of importance. This can be easily done in SiteCatalyst.<br />
<br />
You can customize the menus in SC by navigating to report suite in admin -> General -> Customize Menus. Below are some of the screenshots pertaining to customization.<br />
<br />
In the below screenshot, I have moved the Custom events from Site Metrics to Custom Conversion, I thought if Custom Conversion and Custom events / Success Events are available in the same location it is easier for the business folks to locate them and see the data. I pushed the Custom Conversion to almost to the top and as I have added Custom events to it, I renamed it as Custom Conversion and Events. Makes sense :-)<br />

<div class="p1">
Nowadays you don’t see the page URL report by default in SiteCatalyst, your search for this readymade report will end in vain with just OOB (Out of the Box) configuration.</div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
However small changes to the implementation can do wonders to bring back this data in SiteCatalyst as this value is already available in SC data warehouse and data feeds. The page URL is being fired up for all SC implemented sites but since there is no placeholder to take in value in SiteCatalyst this is not reported as a dimension.</div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
Here is a way to check and confirm that the page URL is getting fired up…go to adobe.com> open the chrome debugger > go to the network tab > type /ss/ > click on the image request and then look for the value for <b><span style="color: blue;">g</span></b>:….you will get to see the value as http://www.adobe.com… It will be similar to the below screenshot.</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0Sa-kem2o5HThGiVLC63xg3CG7i8uLhXQc1IYOWWmLswIJHPGYUjOHlx3nNLV9z0-yoa8-_UrKXEWZasyHnkzaVrz_J0LwvKbJK0NjnOSrTn95jmqvDgTWZK8T3n_d_sFiS6N-Sw19FY/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-11-06+at+7.07.23+pm.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0Sa-kem2o5HThGiVLC63xg3CG7i8uLhXQc1IYOWWmLswIJHPGYUjOHlx3nNLV9z0-yoa8-_UrKXEWZasyHnkzaVrz_J0LwvKbJK0NjnOSrTn95jmqvDgTWZK8T3n_d_sFiS6N-Sw19FY/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-11-06+at+7.07.23+pm.png" height="220" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
Now <span style="color: blue;">g</span> is the variable which hold the page URL value. In order to get this information in SiteCatalyst the value need to be stripped and passed to any other custom variable you would want to assign this value. Now here is how you can do via DTM, through s_code and via Processing rules.</div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p3">
<b>Method 1: Implementation via DTM</b></div>
<div class="p4">
If your implementation uses Adobe's Dynamic Tag Manager, you can easily follow these steps:</div>
<ol class="ol1">
<li class="li1">Log in to <a href="http://dtm.adobe.com/"><span class="s1">dtm.adobe.com</span></a> and click the desired web property.</li>
<li class="li1">Click the icon next to the Analytics tool.</li>
<li class="li1">Under global variables, find an unused eVar and set it to <span class="s2">D=g</span>. <span class="s2">D=</span> is Adobe's dynamic variable operator, and <span class="s2">g</span> is indicative of page URL.</li>
<li class="li1">Save and deploy settings.</li>
</ol>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p3">
<b>Method 2: Implementation using s_code</b></div>
<div class="p4">
If your organization is not using DTM, you can assign the variable value within your core JavaScript file:</div>
<ol class="ol1">
<li class="li1">Open your s_code.js file.</li>
<li class="li1">Within the <span class="s2">doPlugins()</span> function, add a line containing this code, replacing <span class="s2">XX</span> with the desired eVar:<br />
<span class="s2">s.eVarXX="D=g";</span></li>
<li class="li1">Save the file and upload to your site.</li>
</ol>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p3">
<b>Method 3: Using Processing Rules</b></div>
<div class="p4">
If you are authorized to use Processing Rules, you can use them to automatically populate a variable with page URL:</div>
<ol class="ol1">
<li class="li1">Log in to Adobe Analytics and go to Star Menu | Admin Tools | Report Suites</li>
<li class="li1">Select the correct report suite, and go to Edit Settings | General | Processing Rules</li>
<li class="li1">Click Add Rule, and create the following rule (Always Execute):<br />
<b>Overwrite value of [desired eVar] with page_url</b></li>
<li class="li1">Click Save.</li>
</ol>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="p1">
Now you know how can you easily get the URL data in SiteCatalyst using any of the above methods!</div>

eVars are great, it is persistent...can retain the value.. has got the expiration settings...allocation settings...can work better with success events...no matter how distant it is........... but its ability to hold only one value at the time makes its team mate Merchandising evar popular than it.<br />
<br />
eVars can walk/run scores of miles over the website to meet it lover(s), the success events. Lets look at this example, a person is searching for shoes and towels, adds to cart both the product, and buys both the products. Most of the people would have used "most recent allocation" for the eVars, and if that is the case here...just guess which one would get the credit......and it is going to be obviously Mr.Towel..<br />
<br />
Merchandising eVars can correctly assign the credit for each of the searches --> Shoes for the product Shoes, and Towels for the product towel.<br />
<br />
As I had mentioned in my earlier post there are 2 methods of Merchandising evar, the Product syntax and Conversion variable syntax. Read it here<br />
