Check out my new blog My Site Ranks First in Google

Check out my new blog which was created to participate in an SEO contest.

The first post was made with the intention to rank for the following keyword "My Site Ranks First in Google." But the subsequent posts I made did not have the same mission in mind. Thought of posting something useful to users and segmenting it for easy navigation.

Please glance at my new blog and also subscribe to it to get the latest updates.

Google Caffeine Improves Google's Indexing Infrastructure

Google's indexing infrastructure is supercharged with Caffeine.

Google gave a hint on Caffeine during last november and now it is  LIVE to the world. “Whole new web indexing system” is how Google calls this and says Caffeine is 50 percent fresher than its last index. Caffine speeds up the process of indexing, within seconds after the content is crawled it is searchable in Google!!!!!

Both Publishers and searchers benefit from Google Caffeine. Publishers intent to get the content across to the searchers instantly is granted by Caffeine, the supercharged indexing infrastucture. Similarly the searchers desire to get fresh content is also fulfilled. Having said this please note that there is no change in the ranking algorithm here and also do not think that the crawling speed has increased.

The earlier Indexing process was like this

Google bot crawls web pages --> Process them by extracting content, anchor text, external links etc. and then determines about the kind of pages, ranking etc. and add them to the index - the query handler retrieves the data when some one queries. The crawling and indexing happens as a batch by batch process and time for making the pages LIVE is more here.

But with the launch of Caffeine the indexing process is simplified and it happens like this

Google bot crawls the page and process the web pages through the whole indexing pipeline and makes it LIVE at a quick pace.

Thanks & good luck to Google Caffeine from my side.

Google "Mayday" Update - Alogoritm Change Affected Long Tail Keywords Ranking & Traffic

Google makes an algorithm change on May 2010. This change in Google algorithm is coined by Webmaster World as “Mayday” update.

Matt cutts said that this change would affect long tail keyword ranking. Low quality sites getting traffic through long queries will find a sharp dip in their traffic. High quality sites asusual thrives and remain unaffected by the “Mayday” update.

Inner pages of large websites without value added content and backlinks are the worst affected ones. We find lot of dynamic websites ranking for inner pages having very less content / no content. These kind of pages ranking well for long tail keywords gets the beating from Google's ranking stick.

By making such an update Google consistently works towards providing high quality results to it users world wide. There is no wonder why people prefer using Google to find the products / servcies / information / anything they are looking for. Every one who uses Google gets the relevant high quality results they are looking for.

It might not be a good news for SEOs who toil hard to promote their client websites which is not having a high quality in the eyes of Google. But nevertheless it is job of ethical SEOs to improve the quality of websites they SEO.

Major Drawback of Google Analytics when Compared with Omniture and CoreMetrics

Google analytics has a major drawback on its ecommerce reporting part. It always gives credit to the keywords or referrals used by people last time when they visited the website.

This is a major issue because the ultimate objective of an ecommerce site is sales. Knowing the keywords and referring sources that reasoned the sales is the foremost valuable thing for a website owner, a great clue for repeating the sales.

Websites using Google analytics will get only the keywords and referring sources used by people who purchased the product, the last time they visited the website..  Can Google Analytics maintain it Enterprise Class here also ? YES IT CAN. Here is a way to track the first click with Google analytics..thanks to Patrick Altoft, Director of Search at Leeds based digital & SEO agency Branded3 for providing a simple hack to help Google Analytics maintain its high standards against Omniture and CoreMetrics.

Email from Google Ad Manager DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP) Small BusinessTeam

Since Google's acquisition of DoubleClick in March of 2008, you may have noticed a number of significant improvements to Google Ad Manager designed to make managing your inventory and ad operations faster and easier. The new Inventory and Admin tabs are just a few such enhancements and there are many more on the way. These innovations were made possible by listening to your feedback and building upon the strengths of Google Ad Manager as well as technology and insight from DoubleClick's publisher suite.

Today, we announced our next generation publisher ad serving platform, the new DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP) from Google, which further leverages the combined strengths of Google and DoubleClick. As part of this announcement, we're excited to let you know that all of our Google Ad Manager publisher accounts will be upgraded to DFP Small Business. This is the next generation of Google Ad Manager, bringing you many of the features you have requested like a complete, open Web Services API and a completely overhauled user interface that is even easier to learn and faster to use.

Over the next few weeks, we will upgrade your Google Ad Manager account to DFP Small Business automatically. You'll see the new names and logos and also benefit from redesigned trafficking workflows designed to make campaign management more intuitive and efficient. Similarly, the Google Ad Manager Help Center, User Forum, and other additional resources you enjoy will be re-branded to DFP Small Business.

As a DFP Small Business user, you'll still be able to sign in with the same username and password you use today, and your ad delivery and account data will be unaffected by this change.

In order to prepare for the upcoming changes to your Google Ad Manager account, we've prepared a set of online materials to help you get ready:
  • Familiarize yourself with the new DFP Small Business website which will be replacing the Google Ad Manager website.
  • Get a quick overview of the upcoming trafficking improvements and watch videos demonstrating the changes.
  • Attend our DFP Small Business web seminars to get an overview of these changes.
Thanks again for your support, and we look forward to our continued partnership.
